Holly Koester (1959-)
Holly Koester is the world’s first wheelchair racer to complete a marathon (26.2 miles) in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. She is also a member of the exclusive 100 Marathon Club; having completed over 100 marathons. In 1990, Captain Koester was severely injured in an overturned vehicle while on alert at the Redstone Arsenal in Alabama and was discharged to civilian life as a paraplegic. Her positive attitude and spirit for life is evident in her groundbreaking accomplishments and impressive determination. In addition to racing, she has worked as sports director for her local chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America, a substitute teacher and teaches dog obedience.
