“We spent the night on the outskirts of the town and then gave a talk to the elementary school who though the idea of a dog riding a horse both funny and curious.”

Bernice Ende (1955-)
The daughter of a Minnesota dairy farmer, and a former classical ballerina; Bernice has ridden an astonishing 12,000 miles by horseback. Her current journey of 7,000 miles; encompassing 2 years, is shared by her loyal companions: Claire, her dog; Essie Pearl, her pack horse; and Honor, her riding horse. Honor, of Native Dancer stock, was an unwanted mare, but Bernice gave her a second chance at life, and refers to her as, a legend. Claire, who Bernice found as a puppy nearly dead in a ditch, loyally accompanies Bernice on her long, adventurous treks. Now too old to walk the entire journey, Claire amazingly, rides Essie Pearl. Their spirited journey is mythical Americana.
