Virginia Hall 1906 – 1982
Virginia has extraordinary grit and unmatchable courage during her days as a spy and informant during WWII and was known for being able to radically transforming her appearance . An American by birth, she was multilingual and an enthusiastic outdoorswoman. While working in Turkey she was shot during a hunting accident which resulted in half her leg being amputated. Nevertheless, she went on to become one of the most important spies during the War. She served in the American Office of Strategic Services, the British Special Operations Executive and was one of the first women employed by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). She was awarded the MBE from by England’s King George VI, and she is the only American civilian woman to be awarded the Distinguish Service Cross.
