Fishing Tips
Fishing for Your Health

The benefits of fishing to women are infinite.  Getting away from the ‘hustle and bustle’ of everyday life and retreating to a peaceful fishing location can do wonders for the mind, as well as, the spirit.  The physical activity, sense of accomplishment, and healthy dietary bonuses of fishing are not to be underestimated.   In the end, fishing is a positive choice and a wonderful activity for the individual or family.

We would like to highlight a few fishing organizations that have been instrumental in promoting women’s health and well-being.  These are resources tips that every Adventure Woman should know about, and hopefully support.  Please pass the information along to women who might benefit from the camaraderie and encouragement of other women in the fishing community who care.

Casting for Recovery:  is a national 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, that supports breast cancer survivors through a program that combines fly-fishing, counseling, and medical information to build a focus on wellness instead of illness.  Casting for Recovery provides weekend retreats at no cost to the participants including lodging, meals and professional instruction.  Any woman who has experienced breast cancer is eligible to attend a retreat (with medical clearance from their physicians).  Trained facilitators staff each retreat including: a psychotherapist, a health care professional (e.g. physical therapist, nurse), and four fly fishing instructors.  For more information or to donate:

Reeling & Healing:  Is a 100% volunteer staffed, full-licensed charitable 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization that is 100% donor supported.  Their mission is to provide participants with a one-of-a-kind experience, on and off the river, which renews their spirit and hope through the elements of fly fishing, nature, peer coaching, positive camaraderie, and support.  For more information or to donate:

Liberty Lodge Outfitters:  was founded in early 2009.   Liberty Lodge Outfitters is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving the wounded men and women of our Armed Forces.  Liberty Lodge promotes emotional and physical rehabilitation through outdoor recreation such as hunting, fishing and various other outdoor activities.  A worry free trip at no cost to them.  Families welcome.  For more information or to donate:
