Taiwan, meaning “Terraced Bay” is located about 100 miles off the coast of mainland China.  This economically powerful island is full of many wonders, and outside the ‘hustle and bustle’ of the city (Taipei being the largest) it is physically stunning.  Adventure woman recommends trying the traditional city markets, the Maokong Gondola, and a trip up Taipei 101; the world’s tallest building with the world’s fastest elevators.  Outside the city limits try Tarko National Park with its high mountain gorge scenery.  You’ll soon understand why the Portuguese sailors in the 1600s named this island, ‘Formosa;’ meaning beautiful.
